Reading guide

This policy applies to clients, job applicants and anyone who contacts us. It explains what we collect, why, who we share it with and how to exercise your rights.

Who we are

This website is operated by Umvangazi Holdings Group (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2026/824133/07), trading as Umvangazi Holdings ("we", "us" or "our"). We are the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy, as defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA").

Umvangazi Holdings coordinates a group of specialist companies: Umvangazi Research, Umvangazi Technologies, Umvangazi Cyber, Thwane Digital and Umvangazi Capital. This policy applies to personal information collected through this website and through the contact details published on it.

Information we collect

Information you give us. When you submit an enquiry we collect your name, email address, the organisation you represent (optional), the problem area you select, your message and any optional context you add, such as your industry, organisation type or timeline. When you email, call or message us on WhatsApp, we receive the details you choose to share.

Job applicants. When you contact us about a career, we collect the details you send us, such as your name, contact details, CV, qualifications, work history, references and links to your work.

Technical information. Our hosting and security services record limited technical information when you visit the website, such as your IP address, the page requested, browser type, date and time, and security events.

Cookies and tracking. This website does not set cookies and does not use advertising or analytics trackers.

Please do not send passwords, private keys, confidential credentials or sensitive production data through any of our channels.

How we use your information

We use personal information only to:

  • respond to your enquiry and route it to the right company in the group;
  • assess job applicants for current and future roles in the group;
  • communicate with you about the services you asked about;
  • keep a record of our communications;
  • operate, secure and protect the website and our systems; and
  • comply with our legal obligations.

We process this information because you asked us to, to take steps at your request before any agreement, for our legitimate interest in running a secure website, or because the law requires it, as permitted by section 11 of POPIA. We do not use your information for direct marketing without your consent, and we do not sell it.

Sharing your information

We share personal information only where needed for the purposes above:

  • with the company in our group that is best placed to respond to your enquiry or that is hiring for the role;
  • with referees and verification providers, for job applicants and only with your agreement;
  • with service providers who host the website, deliver enquiries or provide security services, under obligations of confidentiality and security; and
  • where the law, a court or a regulator requires it.

If you contact us on WhatsApp, your messages are also processed by WhatsApp under its own terms and privacy policy.

Information sent outside South Africa

Some of our service providers may store or process information outside South Africa. When this happens, we make sure the transfer is permitted by section 72 of POPIA, for example because the recipient is subject to adequate data protection law or contractual safeguards.

Job applicants

We use applicant information only to consider you for work in the group. Hiring decisions are made by people, not by automated decision making.

Please do not send your identity number, health information, criminal record or other special personal information with a first application. If a role requires it, for example a background check or employment equity reporting, we will ask you for it, explain why and get your consent where the law requires it.

If you are not appointed, we delete your application once the recruitment process ends, unless you agree that we may keep it to consider you for future roles. You can withdraw that agreement at any time.

How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, or for as long as the law requires us to keep records. When it is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.

How we protect information

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, as required by section 19 of POPIA. These include encrypted connections, restricted access to enquiry information, and keeping public demonstrations separate from our corporate systems. You can read more on our Security page.

Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

  • ask whether we hold personal information about you and request a copy of it;
  • ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate, out of date or no longer needed;
  • object to the processing of your information, and withdraw any consent you have given; and
  • lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

To exercise these rights, contact our Information Officer at info@umvangaziholdings.co.za. We may need to confirm your identity before we respond.
